Happy Birthday Rev. L. L. Langstroth! If you didn't know, in 1851 he pioneered the use of Bee-Space and designed the movable frame hive commonly used in North America today. In 1853 his book, The Hive and the Honey Bee, was the first detailed writing of honey bee management techniques. 150 years later his book is still considered by many to bee THE book of modern beekeeping.

City bees? Yes! This spring Peace Bees is joining with the Unity Gardens of South Bend to put honey bees at the La Salle Square garden. This is an exciting project that will also include some beekeeping classes, mentoring and maybe expanded urban beekeeping in South Bend. http://ping.fm/D4pSW

The second graders have a new recess game. I think it's called bee hive. There was a huge group pretending to be the different types of bees in a hive. It kept them busy for an entire recess.
